4 Practices in Taking Inspired Action Towards Your Dreams

I’ve been in a lot of conversations recently about how we leverage our inspiration as CEOs and founders of companies and passion projects.

How do we take these big ideas we have, in some cases, lifelong dreams, career pivots and business ideas that we’ve held close to our hearts for years and move them forward?

Now, I’m the first one to admit that I never would have given up my cushy federal government day job without the partnership of a coach to remind me of my dreams in the face of my fears.

I believe that’s a key role we serve as coaches. But making that initial leap is just a first step.

There are countless steps and points of resistance that you must push through to take an inspired idea to fruition, and that’s what I want to discuss with you in today’s blog.

Because I’ve noticed some similarities in the conversations I’ve been in. Whether you’re brand new to working with a coach or a veteran like myself who’s worked with a personal coach for nearly a decade now…

Here are 4 practices that will support you in taking inspired action towards your dreams rather than continually ideating in your head.

Generate clarity in motion

As a recovering perfectionista myself, I notice across the board working with ambitious empaths that we ruminate a lot. We tend to overthink, overanalyze and go overboard in our heads. While we may generate some clarity doing so, we gain considerably more clarity and at a much faster pace through action.

When we move forward in spite of not having all the answers to our endless questions, we allow the path forward and the how to unfold. We generate clarity for ourselves through being in motion, rather than sitting on the sidelines. Consider asking yourself, “what is the next appropriate action to take?”

Pursuing your lifelong calling is a matter of the heart not the head

It’s important to mention that overanalysis and overthinking have likely generated considerable results for you in life. However, when we are pursuing our lifelong calling this requires a willingness to be led by and fueled by the heart rather than the intellect.

This is a scary proposition for those of us practiced in generating substantial results using our heads. Consider asking yourself, “what does my heart have to say is the next appropriate action here?”

Become comfortable with being uncomfortable

Countless clients have hired me over the years as a structure to hold them accountable to launching their dream businesses. As a founder myself, I adore working with entrepreneurs because I appreciate being in the presence of that much courage and bravery.

It’s a scary pursuit indeed to leave the confines of your comfort zone and take the road less traveled. It reminds me of a favorite poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

Taking the path less traveled is of course a first step. Growing your capacity to continue walking down the path less traveled becomes easier with practice and consistency. The entrepreneur’s journey requires us to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is one of the greatest mindset hacks that entrepreneurs must overcome. Consider asking yourself, “how am I allowing discomfort to cloud my vision or path?”

Put your dreams on loudspeaker

As you become practiced in trusting your closely-held dreams with other people, you will have more access to sufficient external support structures that we all need to overcome resistance. In fact, the support must be greater than the resistance. We all need encouragement, validation, accountability, partnership, collaboration, and reminders of what is most important to us in the face of resistance and fear.

I adored this recent podcast episode where Philippa leveraged the feedback of her community to remind her she was on the right path. She successfully resigned from a lucrative 25+ year career in banking to pursue her lifelong dream of buying a chateau in southern France and turning it into a summer camp for women.

We all have pipe dreams. When we begin putting them on loudspeaker and sharing them with our network, a coach, or a mastermind of like minded creators and peers, our dreams take form and shape and become more real for us. As our dreams become more real, we become more willing to be and do what it will take to bring them to life.

Similarly, being surrounded by other dreamers who are moving forward helps inspire us to do the same. This is why our UNBOUNDED Mastermind is one of the most powerful containers through which I (alongside a vibrant community of like minded, heart-centered peers) directly support members in transforming their dreams from pipe dream to reality. Consider asking yourself, “who will I entrust my dreams with this weekend?”

Navigating Neurodivergence: Energy Hacks for Empaths with Regina Carey

Regina Carey joins me on The Prosperous Empath® this week for a truly heart-centered conversation about neurodivergence and how it is often interconnected with being an empath and/or HSP. Regina is a special ed teacher turned Executive Coach who has spent the last three decades educating, empowering, and advocating for those who feel stuck, yet long to take that next great leap. Recently, she returned from an adventurous trip to Machu Picchu and shares her experience of how saying yes to physical challenges has helped her balance intense emotions as an empath. But something I deeply appreciate about this conversation are Regina’s insights on neurodivergence, especially ADHD, and the importance of managing energy and advocating for oneself. Regina reflects on her upbringing and the influence of the women in her life, emphasizing the need to break patterns of burnout and dis-ease to live authentically. This episode is for anyone who is neurodivergent (or loves someone who is) and is seeking energetic balance in their life. Tune in for actionable steps on thriving more as an ambitious empath.
